Conflict of interest between Everett charity, telemarketing co.

KOMO News reported a story about a telemarketing company who raises money for the Breast Cancer Prevention Fund (BCPF). According to the article this company asks for donations starting at $180 and prospective donors are told that the $180 will help two women get mammograms. Prospective donor, Carl Hu, has two members of his family who have survived breast cancer. Hu was ready to donate until he researched the company. He discovered the founder of the BCPF is also the owner of the telemarketing company who is soliciting these donations. The BCPF has paid $3.5 million for mammograms after raising $17.5 million. The charity paid the telemarketing company $10.5 million after expenses. Nobody could explain the whereabouts of the money nor could the owner/founder or board members be reached for comment.

I am very disappointed and angry at the actions of the the owner of the company.

It is very sad that someone is profiting so much money off of donations. The people who did donate weren't aware not all of their donation was going to the fund so they were misled. The BCPF did help a lot of women get mammograms but could have helped so many more with the unexplained $10.5 million. I hate the fact that the founder of a non-profit organization is profiting of the very same organization. Something is terribly wrong with this scenario, there is definitely a conflict of interest here.

KOMO said at the end of the article that the owner/founder is under investigation by the attorney general's office and the IRS.
